The 20-Franc gold coin from France is a historic gold coin minted in the Grande Nation for over a century. The two most famous designs date from the Second Empire (portrait of Napoleon III) and the 3rd Republic (Marianne/Coq).

At that time, France, like Switzerland, Italy and Belgium, was part of the Latin Monetary Union and minted gold and silver coins according to the same rules.
